About 'Tseen

'Tseen (Sm’algyax for Welcome) is an Urban Native organization in the Seattle area, dedicated to serving the Tsimshian diaspora and the broader Indigenous community.

We also teach the wider public about Indigenous cultures and practices.

Our work centers on traditional arts like Chilkat and Ravenstail weaving, regalia, and jewelry-making, alongside fostering athleticism with our Native Youth Olympics team, providing free training in Traditional Arctic Sports to Seattle-area youth.

Our Story & Mission

Founded in 2023 by Ama Gyet da Łguwaalksik (Heather Puri) and Ksgooga Gwisgwaasgm Gyemk (Janice Jainga Lonergan), ‘Tseen established nearly a decade of informal community gatherings. Our leadership profoundly reflects our community’s needs and cultural values; Heather, a Tsimshian business leader, leverages her non-profit expertise, while Janice is a master weaver and artist dedicated to revitalizing Tsimshian art forms.

Our mission is to grow Indigenous cultural leadership by making every weaver a teacher and every athlete a coach. We build capacity through intergenerational learning, hands-on workshops, and peer mentorship—ensuring cultural knowledge is passed forward and outward.
